Drunk driving is when someone who has more taken alcohol than is specified drives while drunk. In most cases, it is a criminal offense for it is against the law. When drunk driving occurs, more often than not, accidents happen as a result. As a result of these accidents, road users could lose their lives, damage done to not only individual and but state property also.
Majority of the drunk driving cases occur at night, during the weekends and holidays. These times are when most people are free from their daily activities and they choose to have a good time by taking alcohol. It is during the peak times that most accidents due to drunk driving occur. Drivers and other victims may be maimed or die in some of these accidents.
Drunk driving accidents occur so easily. This is because when a person is drunk, they lose so much of their mental capacity and end up behaving irresponsibly. Over speeding, ignoring of road signs that indicate things such as bumps are the traffic offenses caused by drunk driving.
So much publicity has been done so as to curb cases of drunk driving. Some taxi companies even base their marketing on the same but despite all that, drunk driving still controls the day. The cases are at times brought down when taxi drivers strategically place themselves outside drinking joints to ferry the alcohol drinkers to their destinations instead of driving when drunk. It is important to put taxi drivers out of drinking joints This may work but sometimes the driver arrives to the drinking joint with their car and they find it difficult to leave it behind. There can be a case where a driver spends all their money on the alcohol and end up with no money for the cab. For one reason or another, drunk people end up driving despite all the factors that could have prevented it.
Another way of preventing the drunk driving is when traffic police become more cautious during the peak times. This mostly works because the penalties out in place are tough on the crime, it being an offense against the country’s law. If it results in fatalities or property destruction, then a jail term and huge fines may be demanded by the state. The offensive driver has the possibility of losing their driving license.
Many bad things happen to the parties that get involved in a drunk driving case. It is a menace that will always have to be faced because people cannot stop taking alcohol. The best alternative would be to stiffen the penalties for drunk driving. A weight is on people to gather the lessons learnt from the results of drunk driving and bring changes to generations to come. Children should be taught from their young age the repercussions of drunk driving and that they may grow up having that knowledge. In this way, changes to the next generation is achieved then drunk driving can be a thing of the past
